Winter Camp Out Event - Postponed
« on: February 05, 2017, 02:26:46 PM »
We will meet at Boca Reservoir on March 4th & 5th, 2017 to practice with our cold weather gear and develop our skills with an overnight camp out event. For this event we will work on our fire making skills, knot tying, emergency tarp shelters, open fire cooking and compass and navigation skills with a short day-time hike, utilizing two-way radios. We will begin our training schedule at 10:00 AM on Saturday and conclude by 2:00 PM on Sunday. It is expected that we will be in a snow covered environment so warm and water resistant clothing will be a must. Depending on the road conditions two-wheel drive vehicles may find it difficult to gain access to the camp site and it may be necessary to ferry people to the location. We will camp at Boca Reservoir at the group camp site off of West Hinton Road. The trail will be marked with orange tape to help you navigate to the campsite. In the advent that conditions are not safe, an alternate location may have to be used that allows safe travel to another site. Stay tuned to this meeting maker in case of a location change. The intention of this training is to provide a safe environment to practice cold weather skills without the aid of electric power, running water or improved facilities and amenities in the advent that you find yourself having to "rough it" for a period of time in a difficult environment. It is encouraged that you attempt to work from your emergency bag as much as you can.

Things to bring:
Cold weather gear (clothing, sleeping bags, ground mat, tent)
Emergency shelter tarp, stakes and rope
Your compass
Open fire cooking gear (cast iron or camp mess kit, utensils, cup, emergency cook stove)
Fire kit
Personal 2-way radios
Personal sanitation (portable toilet of some type, privacy shelter)
Water
Your emergency bag (bug out bag, get-home bag, 72-hour kit, etc.)
Current first aid kit

Are you wanting more people to attend? Would you like this announced through meetup?

I plan to be there.

Not sure if my brother Terral can make it or not.

Thanks for getting things arranged.

Just my opinion.

We used Meetup in the past and found it did not work well for us. I appreciate the offer but we'll skip making an announcement via meetup for this event and keep it to this site only. Thank you though for considering it on our behalf.

All,
We are going to postpone this event until a later date. Several of us had scheduling conflicts and are unable to attend. I also checked out Boca and the area is shut down and inaccessible. Dog Valley is not in much better shape. When we get a chance to coordinate our schedules, we'll reset a new date for everyone to test out their cold weather skills. Sorry for the postponement all but I appreciate your continued support and desire to train and practice your prepper skills.

Another wise decision. We need to practice and experience things, but only when it is safe and something can actually be learned.

Thanks Rob.
