Digital Privacy How-to's
« on: September 28, 2016, 09:20:19 AM »
I think this belongs in the "Training Videos and Links" forum.

It does fall squarely in the OPSEC category...

The author discusses how he plans to maintain personal privacy in a world where the Internet is everywhere.

My only piece of advice is that many of the tactics discussed MUST be done in combination, not individually.  Failing to do all of them will leave you vulnerable to loss of privacy.

DO read the comments following these articles. Look for the "Comments" button/bar below the article text.

So:

Part 1) http://www.networkworld.com/article/3124759/security/down-the-rabbit-hole-part-1-making-my-life-private-and-secure.html

Part 2) http://www.networkworld.com/article/3125015/down-the-rabbit-hole-part-2-to-ensure-security-and-privacy-open-source-is-required

Warning, you will need a degree of expertise in digital technology.  DON"T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP FROM SOMEONE YOU TRUST...

I am reminded of the cliche: "But I'm not doing anything wrong, so I don't need to worry".  I worry anyway...

quote from the article:
"The goal here is to find the right balance between privacy and security—and still enjoy the fruits of a hyper-connected, always-online, digital-to-the-hilt world."

By the same author, an article on removing Google(r) from you digital life:

http://www.networkworld.com/article/2940176/opensource-subnet/kicking-google-out-of-my-life-day-1.html

Some of you will find this difficult, perhaps impossible, because of how you have set up your digital world.

Again; ask for help if you want to address this.

Remember:  Google(r) is NOT your friend, use another search engine which DOES NOT track your online activity.

An additional discussion of the "security over privacy" argument:

For those who chose security:  How's that working out for you right now?
